MILESTONES
After obtaining
his postgraduate degree in the branch of chemistry in Heidelberg, Chicago and
Berlin universities, Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı established a pharmaceutical
laboratory in Istanbul in 1942.
The first drug
was a vitamin capsule named D-Vital, which was produced in an apartment in
Laleli.
When the
company moved to a six-room laboratory on the Galata Mumhane Street in 1944,
Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı had 15 workers, and four products were being
manufactured.
On November 23, 1951, EIS inaugurated Turkey's first modern pharmaceutical plant in Levent, Istanbul.
Eczacıbaşı
Scientific Research and Award Fund was established in 1959 in order to support
and reward scientific research in Turkey especially in the fields of medicine,
chemistry and pharmacy. With this Fund, Eczacıbaşı pioneered in carrying out
scientific research in the field of health in Turkey.
Eczacıbaşı
establishes an active pharmaceutical ingredient and parenteral solution plant
in Ayazaga, Istanbul in 1982.
In 1983, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Turkish Republic, EIS established the Turkish Republican Era Medical Awards for individuals who contributed significantly to the field of health and medicine in Turkey.
EIS, the first establishment of the Eczacıbaşı Group, went public in 1990.
In 1992, the
modern pharmaceutical complex in Lüleburgaz started production with a
production capacity of 150 million boxes per year.
The Eczacıbaşı-Baxter
partnership was established to replace Eczacıbaşı - Baxter
Hospital Supply, which produced serum.
In 2002, Şifa
Pharmacy the first pharmacy owned by Süleyman F. Eczacıbaşı, was re-established
as a museum in the Lüleburgaz production facilities. Şifa Eczanesi, which was
the starting point of Eczacıbaşı Group’s corporate identity, was
presented with its unique collection, which is not limited with Eczacıbaşı
products only, as a service to the History of Turkish Pharmacy.
In 2003,
Eczacıbaşı Health Products was founded, and industrial and commercial
activities of EIS were separated. Lüleburgaz Facilities were transferred to
Eczacıbaşı Health Products in 2004.
In 2004, the Cephalosporin Investment Project was initiated in the Lüleburgaz facilities.
The project is completed in November 23th, 2005. This new facility is built on a 6600m2 closed area and with this added capacity,
cephalosporin Unit will manufacture 37 different products in 242 forms.
The capacity of cephalosporing unit will double with this new addition.
In 2005, the Eczacıbaşı Group replaced its decade-old corporate logo with a new one
that reflects its innovative capacity, dynamic structure, humane approach and excellent reputation.
In 2007, EİS agreed to enter a strategic partnership with Zentiva N.V. to form a strengthened
leading player in the European generic pharmaceuticals market.
