INTRODUCTION

The foundation of Eczacıbaşı Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Co. (EIS), which opened the first modern national pharmaceutical production facility of Turkey in 1952, was laid when Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı returned to Turkey in 1942 after he completed his education abroad. EIS, the biggest institute of the Eczacıbaşı group which in time turned into an industrial group, has acted as the leader of the Turkish pharmaceutical industry as a result of its high standards and innovative work.

In 2007, EİS agreed to enter a strategic partnership with Zentiva N.V. to form a strengthened leading player in the European generic pharmaceuticals market.

Having withdrawn from the generic pharmaceutical manufacturing business, EİS continues its commercial activities in the pharmaceutical industry through its Subsidiaries, Associates and Joint Ventures.

EİS started its Real Estate Development activities in 2002 with the KANYON Project, and acquired the other 50% shares on the KANYON Office Block belonging to İŞ GYO in 2007, becoming the sole ownner of the office block.

Within the Real Estate Development activities, EİS bought a land of approximately 200 thousand squaremeters in Zekeriyaköy, Istanbul, appropriate for building residences and commercial areas, in 50% shares with Eczacıbaşı Holding A.Ş. in 2007 and continues to widen its activities in this field.

Eczacıbaşı Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Co.'s name has been revised to Eczacıbaşı Pharmaceutical and Industrial Investment Co., effective as of 24 November 2008.
